Sen. Nelson named a 2026 Legislator of Distinction by League of Minnesota Cities

The League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) has named State Senator Carla Nelson (Rochester) as a 2026 Legislator of Distinction. The honor is awarded to state lawmakers each year who show strong leadership and support for Minnesota cities.

“I am so thankful to the League of Minnesota Cities for this wonderful honor,” Sen. Nelson said. “I am grateful to LMC for their work, and I am especially thankful for the numerous city officials I have worked so closely with during my time in the Legislature. I have always tried to put the concerns and feedback of my constituents first, and I am proud of everything we accomplished together!”

Sen. Nelson earned the honor through several key actions this session. She served as the chief author of a bill that updated the state housing tax credit, expanding its use for market-rate housing development in greater Minnesota cities. She also reviewed and supported local sales tax requests as a member of the Senate Taxes Committee, and backed League priorities as a member of the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement.

The League of Minnesota Cities represents more than 830 member cities across the state. Award recipients receive a certificate of recognition, and the League sends a copy of the recognition letter to the mayor of each city in the legislator's district.
